I'm bringing this matter up because i feel traumatised and angry for my good fren, also my teacher. Read on. This is wat happened to her.
imagine this scenario:
you have just been allocated a room in a hall. you went to collect your keys on 31st july, went up to the room, and found out, to your absolute disgust, that the room was occupied by a very filthy human being who apparently has not heard of the invention of plastic bags and rubbish bins.
you immediately rushed down to the hall office again, to make sure that whoever the filthy human being was, she wasn't your new roommate. you discover, much to your relief, that the said flithy human being would be moving out soon. in fact, the hall office repeatedly assures you that by the time you move in, the filthy human being would be gone.'she's moving out today,' the hall office says reassuringly while you heave a sigh of immense relief.
you decided to move your stuff back on the 5th of august. you have never even considered the possibility that the previous tenant's stuff was still there. you found out, much to your surprise, that the door to the room was actually unlocked. moreover, the keys to the room was thrown carelessly on the bed. you step into the room, wrinkling your nose up in disgust at the sight of all the insects crawling over the place. there were half eaten lunch boxes, clothes strewn all over the place, and there was not a single inch of area for you to put your stuff down.
you begin the arduous task of cleaning the room. the whole process of getting rid of the maggots, the insects, the bugs, took you more or less six hours. you piled the previous tenant's stuff at the area outside the pantry where it looked more or less like something from the rubbish chute. the guy friends who accompanied you to clean the room decided that since the computer was abandoned, they may as well make the most of it and they took the hard disk and cd rom drive from the computer. the whole task ended at eight thirty.
you were sweaty and smelly but at least the room was livable. and then the next day came. while on your way back to hall, you received an sms from one of your good pals in hall. your good pal told you that you better hurry back, because it seemed as if the flithy human being was back looking for her filthy stuff along with her filthy friends. when you reached hall, you discovered that there were indeed several filthy human beings digging amongst all the filthy stuff thrown out. you hollered,
'are you the previous occupant from room 775?'
a fat and unshapely filthy human turned and glared at you. you quavered slightly, but stood tall. she approached you slowly, taking each step with deliberate slowness, but her stench reached you before she did. you tried to appear unaffected by her odour, but it proved to be too much.
you started breathing through your mouth. it made the stench better, but not by much. the filthy human being started screaming. her voice was high-pitched and not entirely human. she would not allow you to get a word in edgewise. she told you how expensive her filth was, how it cost thousands of dollars to build up that kind of filth. she shouted and shouted while you stood looking at her in amazement because you were amazed that someone could actually be that deluded. she actually believed that her filth was precious. that anyone would yearn to collect that kind of filth. finally, she paused for breath.
you were beginning to think that perhaps she doesn't need to breathe air. you asked her calmly, 'can you listen to my side of the story now, please?' she tried to rearrange her filthy features into something resembling patience but she failed mightily. you started your tale of woe. but she didn't seem to get it. she started interrupting and talking about how her stuff was torn apart. you were confused. when you left the hall the previous night, didn't you stack up her stuff properly outside the pantry?
she stormed with you to the area outside the pantry and the scene which greeted you left you speechless. you staggered. 'but-but it wasn't like this when i left..' you stuttered while the filthy human being smiled, showing her filthy teeth. someone (or several someones) has ravaged through her stuff, and even taken the fan along with them. you started arguing with her, saying that you don't think any of this is your fault. she shouted, 'so i suppose you think all this is my fault?'the hall vice-president arrived, and he told the both of you to calm down.
with calm words, both of you found out where the mistake began. let's rewind.
on 31st of july, the hall office told you that the previous tenant would be moving out that very day. and on the day that she was supposed to move out, the filthy human being decided that oh, she wanted to extend her period of stay. so she emailed the hall office but get this:the hall office never received her email. she held on to the keys, and you were given yours. she received some bad news about her friend being in the hospital, and she rushed out of the room without locking the door, and without her keys. the place was left in a mess. and then that's where the story picks up again, when you decided to move in on 5th august. between 31st july and 5th august, the room was left unlocked.
on 5th august you moved her stuff out, and on that very same night, her stuff was looted by several unknown people.
on 6th august, she came back to hall and started demanding compensation from you for all the filth she had lost. she started claiming how she lost several valuable items, which included a pure gold (or so she says) figurine of religious importance, and a pair of pure gold earrings. but you never saw any of those stuff. she claimed that the computer can no longer be used. she claimed that her desktop was in perfect working condition and now it was destroyed by you
.
she said that she was in the midst of packing until you threw her stuff out.but if there were any signs of things being PACKED, you didn't see it.she said that one side of the room was definitely more vacant than the other, but if there was even a single vacant square of area, you didn't see it either. she lied and said that she only occupied one side of the room, when you had pictures to prove that what you said was true. that in actual fact she occupied the whole room.
she claimed she lost many things, but none of what she said can be proven. she wanted to be reassured that she should receive compensation from you, but the hall officers did not want to give her that promise. so she brought in her similarly filthy parents into the conversation and started talking about how her filthy parents were distraught.
they were shocked. traumatised. you could only stare and stutter while she went on demanding compensation for a lot of stuff. she even wanted compensation for her body foam, body wash, facial wash, et cetera et cetera. but if she actually used any of these products, it wasn't evident in her filthy face.
she wanted compensation for her computer, a desktop computer, and she said it was 2500bucks. your laptop was 2500 bucks. how could it possibly be that her DESKTOP costs 2500bucks?so the total amount of compensation she's asking for?
could be close to ten thousand. you could see the greedy glint in her filthy eyes as she realises that she could possibly claim more things to be missing and get paid for her efforts. you could only sit there, stunned and not speaking, and wonder how in the world could it be that YOU are paying for someone else's mistakes. how could it be that YOU are getting told off for helping SOMEONE ELSE to clean the room.
you couldn't see the justice in any of this.
where is the justice?
